How to Restore Disabled iPhone 5C Without Passcode

A friend of mine has a problem with her iPhone 5c that has been locked, she changed the passcode and forgot it, entering the wrong one over and over locking it. She's hooked the iPhone to her pc to format it to clear the passcode, but gets an error saying the software isn't available to carry it out, I'm guessing she's not updated her software on her phone, so is now a bit stuck.

What's the best thing to do ?, tried a couple of 3rd party softwares but you have to be able to accept it on the iPhone which she can't due to it being locked.

So from what I can gather, it's locked and it's got an old software on which iTunes doesn't support.

Any help would be appreciated.

She will probably need to put her iPhone in DFU restore mode. Unfortunately, you can't just clear the passcode by plugging it in, you have to actually erase and restore the entire thing. If she doesn't have a recent backup she will lose all her data. Putting it in DFU Mode should allow iTunes to both update the iPhone software and restore it to factory settings.

  1. Connect your device to your computer.
  2. Turn off the device by holding the Power button and swiping it off.
  3. Now hold the power button for 3 seconds.
  4. Start holding the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds.
  5. Now Release the Power button and continue holding the home button until you see a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized in recovery mode.
Now you can click Restore to restore the device with the newest iOS version. After that you will need to activate your device.
